Renowned South African singer Lira is set to make her stage comeback after years of recovering from a stroke. In 2022, Lira suffered in stroke while on tour in Germany. The life altering experience left her unable to speak let alone sing.
However, during her recovery, Lira refused to let the side effects of her stroke keep her silent or stop her from ever singing again. The award winning singer recalled having to be taught how to speak, read and write again.
Lira, real name Lerato Moipone Molapo, is set to headline a one-woman show titled Still Here on April 18 at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City. This marks as her first major live performance is over 3 years.
“It’s been six years since I’ve performed at the Lyric Theatre,” Lira remarked, reflecting on her return to the intimate venue she holds dear.
“I’m going to tell my story through music and movement, and it’s going to be an entertaining yet powerful and healing experience,” she said.
The title of the show alone is enough to inspire her fans and music lovers to never give up, despite what life may throw your way... Lira is still here!
“I can now move freely and confidently again,” she said, adding that the show is ultimately a celebration of resilience and second chances.
“No matter what you go through, you can emerge stronger than ever before,” Lira said. “If you have life and breath, you can still live happily, triumphantly, and with purpose.”
