The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has announced the recall of specific batches of Citro-Soda Regular following a potential contamination risk identified at the Adcock Ingram manufacturing facility in Clayville, Johannesburg.
The recall affects three product variants produced at the facility:
Citro-Soda Regular 60 g
Citro-Soda Regular 120 g
Citro-Soda Regular 4 g x 30 sachets
Only products from Adcock Ingram's Clayville manufacturing plant are impacted. The recall comes almost a month after Carte Blanche raised questions about potential contamination of Citro-Soda lemon flavour products at Adcock Ingram's Clayville manufacturing plant.
SAHPRA is currently holding a media briefing in Hatfield, Pretoria to share more insight on this recall. The briefing will outline the reasons for the recall, the regulatory decision, and provide guidance to healthcare professionals and the public.
The recall follows a series of inspections at the Adcock Ingram Clayville site. SAHPRA conducted several Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspections between August 2023 and October 2024, focusing on sterile eye drops and oral dosage forms.
