The youngest son of late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze have pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
Mugabe entered guilty pleas to two charges after he and his co-accused were arrested in February following the shooting of a 23-year-old man at his home in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. The pair have been held in custody since their arrest in February.
Lawyers for the co-accused told the court they were prepared to return to their native Zimbabwe at their own expense if they do not receive a custodial sentence.
33 year old Matonhodze also pleaded guilty to attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, illegal immigration and possession of ammunition.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) did not say what had happened to the charge of attempted murder he had faced. Perhaps this is part of a plea deal they may have or perhaps not but more details are expected on this omission.
Mugabe and Matonhodze will remain in custody until the sentencing proceedings on 24 April.
